Overview

TheN001  Industrial Counterbalance Lift Truck NPORS certification equips participants with the essential skills, knowledge, and understanding required to operate an Industrial Counterbalance Lift Truck safely, helping to eliminate poor operational habits. This course is specifically designed for Plant Operators who need both practical and theory-based training and assessment to carry out their duties effectively on a Counterbalance Forklift.

Delegates will engage in a blend of hands-on exercises and classroom-based tutorials, participants will explore manufacturer guidelines and general operational knowledge of an Industrial Counterbalance Lift Truck, meeting the standards set by NPORS. The course includes practical tasks to help participants familiarise themselves with the forklift’s components, functions, best practices, and safe operating procedures.

The course is fully accredited by NPORS and adheres to national standards and industry best practices, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Course Objectives

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturer’s handbook for the Industrial Counterbalance Lift Truck
  • Confidently identify the major components of the forklift and explain their functions
  • Locate and understand the key controls, including their functions.
  • Perform pre-operational and running checks in compliance with manufacturer and legislative standards
  • Prepare and operate an Industrial Counterbalance Lift Truck safely and efficiently in line with NPORS guidelines
  • Execute specific loading and unloading tasks as practiced throughout the course
  • Follow proper end-of-work and shutdown procedures for an Industrial Counterbalance Lift Truck

Audience

This NPORS N001 Industrial Counterbalance Lift Truck Certification is ideal for Plant Operators who require comprehensive training and assessment in the use of a Counterbalance Forklift. While prior forklift experience is beneficial, it is not a prerequisite.

Both full training and assessment-only options are available, allowing flexibility based on individual needs.

Additional Information

For those seeking a CSCS logo on their operator card, please note that a Health, Safety, & Environment Test must have been passed within the last two years.

Please Note: Course Duration varies to accommodate differing levels of experience.

  • Novice training – five days with a maximum of three delegates
  • Refresher training – two days with a maximum of three delegates
  • Assessment only (no training) – maximum of four delegates
Duration will be confirmed once previous experience is given.

Upon a successful completion you will gain the knowledge of:

Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator
Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer's handbook for the particular machine to be used
Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
Be able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions
Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with the manufacturer's and legislative requirements
Safely mount and dismount the machine
Start and stop the engine and safely move the machine off and stop it safely
Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely laden and unladen, in open and confined areas
Conduct all the necessary safety checks at the work area
Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out lifting and load handling tasks
Carry out lifting and load handling tasks
Lift and transfer loads accurately and safely at different locations
Load and unload external transport safely
Fit, adjust and / or remove attachments
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for machine transportation
Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures

Course content

Upon successfully completing the course you will be sent an NPORS card certifying you have passed this course.

Your days will include a 15 minute break in the morning and afternoon, you will also be allowed a 30 minute break for lunch.

Ensure your bring your OWN lunch.

You must bring or know your national insurance number.

You will need to bring full PPE.
