At Glanville Training, we are committed to equipping you with the essential skills and knowledge to become a confident and effective first aider. Our comprehensive First Aid at Work course spans three days, providing you with an in-depth understanding of first aid principles and making you an effective first aider capable of responding to a multitude of emergencies with competence and assurance.

Course Structure

Our training program combines hands-on, practical exercises with informative tutor presentations, ensuring that you have the best opportunity to master the practicalities of first-aid treatment. Over three days, you will cover a wide range of topics, including:

  • Understanding the Role of the First Aider: Learn about the crucial role of a first aider, with a particular emphasis on preventing cross-infection.
  • Recording Incidents and Actions: Understand the importance of documenting incidents and your actions to maintain a clear record.
  • Use of Available Equipment: Familiarize yourself with the tools and equipment necessary for effective first aid.
  • Assessing the Situation: Develop the ability to assess emergencies and act safely, promptly, and effectively.
  • Administering First Aid to Unconscious Casualties: Gain the skills to provide first aid to unconscious individuals, including managing seizures.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR): Learn the life-saving technique of CPR.
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training: Receive training on the proper use of an AED device.
  • First Aid for Choking: Understand how to assist a choking victim.
  • Managing Wounds and Bleeding: Learn how to provide first aid for wounds and bleeding.
  • Handling Shock: Discover how to care for individuals suffering from shock.
  • First Aid for Minor Injuries: Acquire the skills to address minor injuries such as cuts, grazes, bruises, and small splinters.
  • Recognising Major Illnesses: Recognise signs of major illnesses like heart attacks, strokes, epilepsy, asthma, and diabetes, and provide appropriate first aid.
  • Injuries to Bones, Muscles, and Joints: Learn how to handle injuries to bones, muscles, joints, and suspected spinal injuries.
  • Chest Injuries: Understand how to respond to chest injuries.
  • Burns, Scalds, and Eye Injuries: Gain knowledge on treating burns, scalds, and eye injuries.
  • Sudden Poisoning: Learn how to respond to cases of sudden poisoning.
  • Anaphylactic Shock: Understand how to manage cases of anaphylactic shock.

Assessment and Certification

Your progress will be assessed through practical evaluations on the final day of the course. Upon successful completion, you will receive a course attendance certificate, valid for three years. It is essential to renew your certificate before the expiry date or within one month after the expiry date to ensure your first aid skills remain up to date and effective.

Course content

Upon successfully completing the course you will be awarded a certificate.

Your days will include a 15 minute break in the morning and afternoon, you will also be allowed a 30 minute break for lunch.

Ensure your bring your own lunch.

You must bring or know your national insurance number.

Course cancellations made within 5 working days prior of the course date, or, where delegates fail to attend the training course on the course date, will be charged in full. All cancellations must be made in writing. Delegate substitutions may be made prior to the course start date giving written notice. (If any further information required please refer to T&Cs).
