Excavator as Crane (Lifting Ops)

Overview

This Excavator as Crane course is an NPORS-accredited course that provides comprehensive training for individuals seeking to operate excavators as cranes safely and efficiently. Participants will gain essential knowledge of the industry, the inherent hazards, and their responsibilities as operators. The course focuses on practical skills, ensuring that delegates can proficiently operate excavators as cranes while adhering to safety standards and regulations.

The course will ensure that delegates are able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions, configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas. Ensuring excavator is in a safe condition for attachments to be fitted.

Audience:

This course is designed for individuals who intend to operate excavators as cranes in construction, excavation, and related industries. It is suitable for beginners and experienced operators seeking to enhance their skills and safety awareness.

Prerequisites:

Participants should have a basic understanding of heavy equipment operation and safety practices. No prior experience with excavators or cranes is required.

Assessment:

The course will include both written assessments and practical evaluations to ensure that participants have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to operate excavators as cranes safely and effectively.

Certification:

Upon successful completion of the course and passing the assessments, participants will receive a certificate of completion, demonstrating their competency using an Excavator as a Crane.

Upon a successful completion you will gain the knowledge of:

Have basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator
Be able to conform to manufactures requirements as per technical data, conform to relevant regulations and legislation
Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
Be able to locate and identify steering, driving, braking controls and explain their functions
Safely mount and dismount the machine
Start and stop the engine and safely move the machine off and stop it safely
Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and confined areas
Conduct all safety checks at the work area
Be able to locate, identify, and explain safe working loads, lifting capacity chart and explain different lifting configurations and working ranges
Identify and explain different lifting procedures, explain what task could fall into each category
Identify and explain centres of gravity, calculate estimated weights of loads
Identify any overhead/proximity hazards
Be able to agree the signal codes/hand signals, direction of movement, safe working and safe landing, placement zone with the slinger / signaller
Ensure excavator is in a safe condition for attachments to be fitted
Checked load integrity and security by carrying out trial lift
Be able to lift and move a load to a designated position in a safe and controlled manner ensuring minimum uncontrolled movement
Environmental considerations
Carry out all out of service and securing procedures

Course content

Upon successfully completing the course you will be sent an NPORS card certifying you have passed this course.

Your days will include a 15 minute break in the morning and afternoon, you will also be allowed a 30 minute break for lunch.

Ensure your bring your own lunch.

You must bring ID and provide your national insurance number.

BOLT ON: If you already hold an excavator ticket and wish to have bolt on it is a 2-day course, and a maximum of 4 delegates.

Course cancellations made within 5 working days prior of the course date, or, where delegates fail to attend the training course on the course date, will be charged in full.
