Cable Avoidance Tool Course

Overview

Glanville Training provides a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) course that offers comprehensive training on the proper operation of the Cable Avoidance Tool and Signal Generator (Genny). Tailored for a wide audience, including clients, designers, planning supervisors, employers, operators, managers, and supervisors, this course equips participants with the essential knowledge and skills required to effectively conduct cable avoidance operations and locate underground services.

In the construction industry, the Cable Avoidance Tool plays a critical role in identifying buried services that pose significant hazards to workers. Mishandling or improper usage of these tools can potentially lead to catastrophic accidents. Poorly designed excavations can result in cable or pipe damage, resulting in costly repairs, project delays, and personal injuries. The CAT serves as the solution by pinpointing these underground services, enabling proper marking and avoidance during excavation processes.

Understanding the correct utilisation of these tools is paramount for successful operations and the prevention of underground service mishaps during excavation. Our CAT course is meticulously designed to align with the guidance provided in HSG 47, ensuring compliance and safety in situations involving ground penetration at or below the surface level.

Upon successful completion of the course you will:

Identify Underground Services and Common Marking(s)
Legislation, Regulations and Best Practice with respect to Detecting and Tracing Underground Services
Reasons for using Cable Locators
Hazards arising from the use of Cable Avoidance Tools and Signal Generators and precautions which should be observed
