EUSR CAT & Genny Course

Overview

Glanville Training offers a comprehensive EUSR-accredited CAT & Genny Course, focusing on the safe and effective use of the Signal Generator (Genny) and Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT). This specialised training is designed to support a wide range of professionals, including clients, designers, planning supervisors, employers, operators, managers, and supervisors. The course provides participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to carry out cable avoidance procedures safely and accurately, helping to reduce the risks associated with underground service strikes.

In the construction and utilities sectors, the correct use of cable avoidance tools is vital for health and safety, as well as for project efficiency. Striking buried services such as electricity cables, water pipes, or gas mains can have serious consequences, including life-threatening injuries, significant financial costs, service disruptions, and legal implications. The Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT), when used in conjunction with the Signal Generator (Genny), plays a key role in detecting and mapping underground utilities before excavation work begins. This allows workers to avoid damaging critical infrastructure, thereby minimising risks to personnel and reducing the likelihood of costly project delays.

Our course is built around the standards set out in the Health and Safety Executive’s HSG47 guidance, ensuring participants are trained to industry best practices when it comes to ground penetration work. Through a mix of theoretical learning and hands-on practical sessions, delegates gain a clear understanding of how to operate the CAT & Genny system, interpret readings correctly, and follow safety protocols. Whether used as part of a new excavation project or routine maintenance, the skills gained from this training are essential for maintaining safety and compliance on-site. Glanville Training’s EUSR CAT & Genny Course empowers professionals to work confidently and safely when locating underground services.

Upon successful completion of the course you will:
